About Hillcrest Chapel
Hillcrest Chapel is an atypical part of a
loose network of "Open Brethren Assemblies". We are locally autonomous and governed by a small diverse group of elders, who include both men and women. The participation of all members in accordance with their gifts in worship and in other ministries and activities of the fellowship is one of our emphases. Hillcrest Chapel can be considered to stand in the Evangelical wing of the wider church.
We practice the baptism of believers rather than the baptism of infant children, but this is not a condition of fellowship. We emphasise the priesthood of all believers, both male and female, and expect everyone to be involved in the ministry of the church. Every Sunday we gather to celebrate the Lord's Supper (Communion).
Hillcrest Chapel is actively engaged with other local churches in joint events such as Easter worship and Christmas events. We seek to maintain positive relationships with other churches within Hamilton and around New Zealand.
The fellowship has set apart several members to full or part-time service in the areas of pastoral care, preaching/ teaching, counselling and administration.
We do not all agree on every theological detail, but we regard the Bible as our final authority in matters of faith and doctrine, and we humbly seek the truth under the Spirit's guidance.
